Journalist. Presenter. Editor. Daniel Murphy has over 10 years of experience in the media. He hasn’t done it all just yet but he’s not far off.
With enough words written to fill a collection of encyclopedias, as many hours of audio recorded to rival The Beatles and a buoyant presence in front of the camera, Dan can work any medium to create insightful, entertaining and engaging content.
Dan began his blossoming career, as so many do, with a blog as a teenager. Those early Bolton Wanderers match reports ignited a deep hunger to make a career out of writing. It was a goal he set at 15 and chased relentlessly as he worked voluntarily to cover Bolton Wanderers as a deputy editor for LionofViennaSuite.com before branching into the video game industry, where he attended prestigious events such as E3 in Los Angeles, the Overwatch League Grand Finals in New York and H1Z1 Pro League launch in Las Vegas. As well as travelling around Europe for preview events.
The pursuit continued as he studied journalism at the University of Sheffield, where his skills in and understanding of news writing, editing, radio and broadcasting were allowed to flourish. Dan got first-hand experience of working as a local news journalist, where one of his stories made the front page of the Sheffield Star. All the while he worked as a freelance journalist in football and gaming to get by.
After graduation, Daniel was hired by the biggest regional newspaper in the UK, the Manchester Evening News, in January 2019. Over the last five years, he has developed into a well-rounded, knowledgeable and skilled journalist and editor who is just as capable of proofing, packaging and publishing content as he is of writing it.
Working in an intense newsroom with tight deadlines naturally brings challenges but Daniel has risen to them on every occasion. Be it covering the shocking news of the formation of the European Super League on his own, creating on-the-whistle match coverage, interviewing high-profile stars or reacting to ever-evolving stories, Dan has a proven record of creating high-quality journalism in testing circumstances.
News, opinions, features, interviews, live coverage, podcasts, video, reviews, blogging, copy editing, social media. Daniel Murphy can do it all.
